Ayurveda Nutrition
What does Ayurveda mean?
Ayurveda means "Science of Life."
What is Ayurveda nutrition?
Ayurveda nutrition is a 6,000 year-old system that observes the effects of food and nutrition on the human body, mind and emotions and the effects that the mind and emotions have on the body when ingesting food. It consists of four basic steps.
- Understand your constitutional or metabolic nature.
- Recognize your digestive capacity.
- Recognize your capacity to assimilate nutrients.
- Recognize the signs if you are not completely digesting and assimilating what you eat.
What is the difference between Ayurvedic nutrition and biochemical nutrition?
Ayurveda nutrition focuses on curing the cause not the symptom and it works
on observation with living people whereas biochemical nutrition studies nutrition
in a test tube taking it out of its original context and basing its studies
on theory and presumptions independent of the whole person.
What is the tri-dosha theory?
According to Ayurveda there are three primary life forces in the body: Vata,
Pitta, Kapha. They relate to our differences in metabolism and to our responses
to food. As the active elements in the body they determine the life processes
of growth and decay. The tri-dosha theory is the basis of Ayurveda nutrition.
